If the equator were a tape measure you would find that the earth is 1,584,000,000 inches (4,023,360,000 cm) around. The earth also weighs 5,972,190,000 trillion tons. By the way if you have ever wanted to try to dig a hole to China make sure you have a canteen of icewater with you. The temperature at the earth's core is 7232° Fahrenheit (4000° C). On a more serious note, at the time of this post: Of the 7,041,428,197 people on earth today 854,508,895 are living in slums and 863,903,009 have no access to clean water.
If you have an extra computer lying around your house or even if you want to volunteer your computer when you aren't using it you can help in a project being conducted at Berkley University to search for evidence of life on other planets. The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) project collects enourmous amounts of radio wave data. Its computers are able to capture and analyze stronger signals but the radio waves from an extraterrestrial source will most likely be the weaker ones that the SETI equipment misses. This is where you come in! Another way to support the project is by joining SETI's Planetary Society. This is the the world's largest space-interest group and you will get news and updates about cool space stuff. Whether you are 6 or 106 you will think it is "out of this world."
